Second in Pecking Order
Faith is my English horse. And she is big; 16 hands. Quinn is pony-sized, and Zippy is 15.2 hands.
After a while of having Zippy, the woman who had Zippy boarded at her stables and brought Zippy put her English horse, the one she had raised from birth, trained, and taken the World Appaloosa Show, for sale.9 year old, extremely well-trained Appaloosa mare, $6,000 dollars.
We went out to look at her, and I loved her. So we got her.
We got her on Good Friday, 2011. Another rainy delivery day. I don't remember what it was the day Quinn was delivered, so maybe we have a pattern.
We don't exactly know what colour she is; maybe a mix of blanket/snowflake/varnish roan/bay roan? But, as many people have said, she is gorgeous. She's even shiny, because she's not all grey! Tons of people at shows, random strangers, have said that they love her. She has a dream of a canter, a beautiful trot, and a nice walk. Oh, and she's good at jumping, though I've never jumped her yet.
She can be a bad witch sometimes, though. Then I'll get her attention, ride it out, and she'll go into good witch mode. Sometimes, if she's been a bad witch earlier or not, she'll enchant me away to the point I feel totally comfortable taking my feet out of the stirrups, putting one of my legs over her withers, and holding onto the reins with one hand.
We've been doing very good at shows. At our first show together, we won two blue ribbons, and a fifth place! Then at the 20114-H fair, we won Showmanship, Equitation, Trail, and got second in pleasure. Because of this, we got the Intermediate High Point Award! We also went to the State Fair Junior Horse Show, and got eighth in Showmanship. We would have placed in Equitation, my mom says, but I rode on the wrong side of the cones. Ah well, maybe next year? I guess we'll see!
